Spring Fawn

Acrylic on Panel   9 x 12

For weeks, I returned to the same forest path, hoping to spot newborn fawns. I caught a few glimpses from afar, but the quest remained elusive. Then, one lucky day, I set out with my camera, expecting only to photograph birds, when it happened. A doe crossed the trail, and moments later, a fawn appeared right in front of me. He paused for a few seconds, staring at me in that way deer so often do. I may have been the first human he had ever seen up close. It was a moment of mutual curiosity, over as quickly as it began, before he vanished back into the woods.
